WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT IN VIETNAM
The Tien Du Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is a municipal wastewater treatment facility in Vietnam.
A key aspect of the treatment process is the disinfection step, which must handle high peak flows and a significant microbiological load while meeting demanding requirements for treated water quality.
This led to the selection of UV technology as a robust and reliable disinfection solution for the plant.
WHAT THE CLIENT NEEDED
ENSURING STRICT DISINFECTION PERFORMANCE
The wastewater reaching the UV system contains total and fecal coliform concentrations of up to 1 000 000 MPN/100 mL, while the treated effluent is required to meet significantly lower microbiological limits: (a) Total coliforms ≤ 2,700 MPN/100 mL – (b) Fecal coliforms ≤ 200 MPN/100 mL.
The challenge was therefore not only to treat the full flow, but also to ensure reliable disinfection under demanding microbiological conditions at peak hydraulic capacity. The disinfection system was designed for wastewater with a UVT (T10) above 65% and TSS below 30 ppm.
THE SOLUTION
HIGH-CAPACITY UV DISINFECTION IN A SINGLE CHANNEL
To meet the flow and disinfection requirements of the plant, the contractor SFC Investment Development for Environment Cooperation selected a UV disinfection solution based on ULTRAAQUA Channel Inclined systems. This led to the installation of 2x MR24-440SS Channel Inclined UV systems in 2026, providing UV disinfection for the full peak design flow of 1,408 m³/h through one channel.
The Channel Inclined configuration offers a compact and efficient approach to high-capacity municipal wastewater treatment. The UV systems were engineered around the specific wastewater characteristics and required microbiological targets of the plant.
As a physical treatment method, UV disinfection provides fast and effective inactivation of microorganisms without adding chemicals to the treated water. This eliminates the need for chemical storage and dosing, while keeping the installation compact.
The plant now benefits from a high-capacity, chemical-free disinfection process, tailored to its specific requirements and designed to meet the required effluent standards.
