The Victorian Fisheries Authority is a government agency responsible for the sustainable management of Victoria’s fisheries and aquatic ecosystems, with a strong focus on the recovery of threatened native fish species. At Snobs Creek, Victoria, the Authority developed the Macquarie Perch Recovery Centre, a purpose-built facility supporting the captive breeding and conservation of the endangered Macquarie Perch, alongside Trout Cod rearing.
The centre comprises five independent recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) covering broodstock, spawning, incubation, fry rearing, and a dedicated quarantine system, giving the facility a high degree of biosecurity and operational separation between species and life stages.
Breeding and rearing endangered species demands exceptional biosecurity, as any disease introduction could jeopardize an entire conservation program.
The Authority required disinfection across multiple independent systems, including a flexible broodstock room where individual tanks could draw from two different RAS systems and source waters. This called for a reliable, corrosion-resistant disinfection solution capable of protecting sensitive broodstock, eggs, and larvae throughout every stage of the recovery process, while supporting strict segregation between systems.
