Southern Region Industrial Estate Project in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, Thailand is a governmental project ran by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) to increase industrial development of the area, especially agro-industries that includes rubber, palm oil, and seafood. This project is of crucial importance for the country as it’s also a strategy to improve the living conditions of the people in the region due to past economic struggles and political instability. The purpose of the project is to create employment opportunities, increase wages in factory and service industries, as well as boost the overall regional economy, and attract tourism.
Due to the guidelines and continuously increasing population, factories, and pollution that comes with it these changes and development processes call for a certain level of environmental responsibility. Thailand’s government has expressed a high level of interest in upgrading their current production processes with more sustainable technologies that correlate with their guidelines for conservation and rehabilitation of natural resources.
