Located in Bayan Lepas, Penang – widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s leading hubs for semiconductor and microelectronic manufacturing – a new and major microelectronic plant was established to support high-precision production.
Facilities of this scale rely on tightly controlled water systems to protect critical process equipment, making consistent water quality a fundamental requirement across the plant.
The plant’s process cooling water loop required effective protection against microbial growth and biofilm formation. In recirculating cooling systems, uncontrolled microbial activity can reduce heat transfer efficiency, foul heat exchangers, obstruct narrow cooling channels, and contribute to microbially influenced corrosion. For a microelectronic facility, these risks can ultimately affect equipment reliability and process stability.
The client needed a solution that would deliver consistent microbial control without introducing chemical residuals that could add to the maintenance burden or compromise the surrounding processes.
