RECREATIONAL WATER IN SPAIN
Cosmopolitan Alicante is a Spa and Fitness Club located in Spain. The club demonstrates a high level of commitment towards complying with the Sustainable Development Goals to ensure a responsible and sustainable sports facility, as well as ensuring the health of their customers.
An important step towards this has been to optimize the water footprint, as well as increasing the hygiene and safety conditions. To accommodate these conditions, UV technology was chosen to improve the overall water quality and consumption.
WHAT THE CLIENT NEEDED
A SUSTAINABLE AND RESPONSIBLE SPORTS FACILITY
The Cosmopolitan Alicante’s goal is to show their commitment to the health and wellbeing of their members while creating a sustainable and responsible sports facility is a major priority. To reach this goal, UV technology was a perfect fit to improve the disinfection and total dechloramination of the entire water area, improving the water conditions significantly. The commitment to fight climate change is a key ambition to the Cosmopolitan Alicante, which is reflected in their involvement in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, as well as the hygiene and safety protocols included in their guide to good practices against Covid-19.
THE SOLUTION
LOWER FOOTPRINT AND CHEMICAL REDUCTION
To provide the cleanest possible water under strict safety conditions, the following ULTRAAQUA systems has been installed:
- 1x ULTRAAQUA UV MP 1000 STD reactor for swimming pools
- 1x MR-1 220 PP reactor for jacuzzies
- 1x MR-220 PP reactor for water beds
All UV systems include ULTRATHERM™ lamps with UVC doses of over 60 mJ/cm2 and transmittances of up to 95%. This investment enables perfect disinfection of all types of pathogenic microorganisms and dechloramination of monochloramines, dichloramines and trichloramines. This will ultimately reduce the use of chemicals, water footprint, and energy costs.
The installation of the reactors will provide excellent disinfection conditions to drastically reduce the use of chemical products by up to 90%. A great benefit for the health of all members, as all damages to the respiratory tract, eyes, and skin are eliminated, normally caused by all types of organic inorganic chloramines.
The implementation of the UV systems will result in a significant energy efficiency improvement, reducing water footprint by roughly 85%. The elimination of chloramines means that the water renewal in the pools is drastically reduced. This makes the Cosmopolitan Alicante a more sustainable, responsible, and committed sports facility.
