Located in Dublin, Ireland, a building owner wanted to ensure clean and uncontaminated water in their air handling units (AHU).
The main goals to be achieved for the client came down to two points. The first is to prevent the spread of harmful microorganisms in the building’s air supply. The second is to protect the equipment while ensuring proper functioning and a smooth operation.
To reach these goals and ultimately decrease the health risks for the building occupants, the water used in the air handling units (AHU) needed to remain clean and uncontaminated.
To meet the needs of the client, ULTRAAQUA and Whitewater organized the delivery and installation of 2 validated UV disinfection systems for the treatment of rainwater. The UV systems installed were 2x MR6-350SSV units, validated after the 3rd party ÖNORM M 5873-1 standard.
The UV systems used in the project were specifically designed to meet the required UV dose for the specific microorganisms present in the rainwater. Another design parameter was the UVT (UV Transmittance), which showed to be at 80%. This UVT is considered to be an optimal level for ensuring the biological safety of the water.
Not only did the solution provide clean and safe water for the AHUs, but it also served as a sustainable and cost-effective way of reducing water consumption and sewage charges. Additionally, it reduced the load on the local municipal water treatment plants, contributing to the community’s overall water management.
The project was delivered timely on the agreed date, with no issues occurring since the installation, proving the effectiveness and stability of the 2 validated UV systems.
