ABOUT THE CLIENT
DRINKING WATER FACILITY IN SWEDEN
Located in Forshaga, Sweden, the municipality chose to upgrade its waterworks facilities through an extensive renovation in 2022.
After an extremely hot and dry summer in 2018, the municipality realized that the municipal waterworks in Forshaga no longer had the capacity required to meet the needs of the residents. When it is dry and hot, residents increasingly wish to water their gardens and fill up their pools amongst other things, which leads to much higher water usage. As a part of this upgrade, UV disinfection was implemented after advice from Christian Berner AB.
WHAT THE CLIENT NEEDED
CLEAN DRINKING WATER
Due to a growing population and increased tourism, the ability to produce enough drinking water was a challenge. Additionally, increased demands on municipalities to meet growing water supply needs were topical. This includes minimizing the environmental impact of water treatment in terms of energy needs and chemical usage. The municipality of Forshaga in Värmland was facing all these challenges.
THE SOLUTION
VALIDATED UV DISINFECTION PERFORMANCE
In 2023, a MR6-220 SSV UV system was installed to optimize the operations. The installation led to several advantages, including:
- Energy savings through more efficient water disinfection
- Minimizing the need for chemicals in the treatment process
- Reducing overall environmental impact
Another advantage is during periods with increased water usage, where the system provides adaptability to varying performance outputs.
The upgrade means that the capacity of the waterworks in Forshaga has been doubled, utilizing UV technology to effectively eliminate contaminants and microorganisms from the drinking water source, Lake Virsten in Deje.
