AQUACULTURE RESEARCH FACILITY IN KOREA

The NIFS Donghae Fisheries Research Institute in Gangwon-do is located in Gangneung, Korea on the northeast coast. The institute primarily studies the production technology and commercialization of seedlings of cold-water varieties. This includes studying aquaculture techniques such as pollack, squid, octopus, cod, salmon, etc., under relatively low water temperature conditions.

INTAKE WATER TREATMENT

As the goal of the research institute is to conduct comprehensive research on the commercialization of seedlings of cold-water varieties, it was essential to look into proper intake water treatment.

The investment made here will create exceptional conditions for the seedlings to thrive, through great conditions with properly treated and maintained water. These improved aquacultural conditions are expected to increase greatly by adding UV sterilizers with the purpose of inflow water sterilization.

THE SOLUTION

Complete aquaculture biosecurity control

A total of 11x MR1-220PP UV disinfection units are installed, with 6 of them being installed in 2018 and the remaining 5 being installed in 2020.

Since the installation, a positive effect on the overall aquaculture biosecurity was achieved. By implementing the 11 polypropylene UV systems in the intake water system, it has become possible to control the microorganism level, ensuring that no dangerous pathogens are able to enter through the intake water.

Choosing polypropylene as the reactor chamber material was the optimal solution due to its exceptional durability and resistance to temperature and pressure.
