Waves Leisure Centre in Whitley Bay, England, is a public swimming facility serving a broad mix of leisure and community users. During a focused 3-week shutdown, FT Leisure’s Service Team completed a full plantroom refurbishment to improve overall reliability and water quality, while maintaining pool temperature to support a smooth reopening.
The efforts made here included upgrades to filtration, monitoring, chemical dosing, and the replacement of the UV system with updated pipework designed to simplify future maintenance.
As part of the refurbishment, the site required a robust secondary disinfection barrier that supports consistently low combined chlorine levels and improves the bather experience.
In pool environments, UV is widely used to reduce chloramine-related issues (odour, irritation, and air quality challenges) while complementing chlorine-based disinfection. The solution also needed to fit efficiently into the existing hydraulic layout and be straightforward to operate and maintain for long-term day-to-day performance.
