HOTEL WASTEWATER IN THAILAND
The Avani Khao Lak Resort is a world-class 100.000 m2 resort in Thailand near Phuket, located in a popular tourist attraction area. The hotel has a comprehensive sustainability policy, which is why they chose to implement a wastewater treatment system using purely organic filtration methods.
The treated wastewater is set to be discharged into the public drain and will eventually be reused as well for watering the garden and filling the resort’s streams.
WHAT THE CLIENT NEEDED
SUSTAINABLE WASTEWATER TREATMENT
To comply with the high sustainability demands at the resort while avoiding contamination threats at the nearby beach, it was evident that proper wastewater treatment needed to be implemented.
An absolute minimal environmental impact needed to be ensured, to protect the many visitors in the popular tourist attraction area. Choosing UV was therefore a perfect match as a part of the wastewater treatment processes, utilizing chemical-free innovative technology.
THE SOLUTION
LOW UVT UV SYSTEMS
To handle the chemical-free disinfection process, two MR6-220SS LOW UVT UV systems were installed at the resort, in collaboration with Nam Solutions and Technologies Co., Ltd. The UV system is installed at the final wastewater treatment stage before discharge to the public drain.
Implementing UV at the final treatment step offers protection against chlorine-resistant pathogens such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia. The use of chemical-free UV disinfection will thus eliminate the harmful effects associated with chlorine.
The LOW UVT UV system was chosen, as it provides excellent disinfection for applications in low UVT environments, which were measured to be at 60%. The UV system series is optimized for wastewater applications, due to its energy efficiency and low maintenance requirements, being a perfect match with the overall sustainability focus.
