Sea Eight is a Spanish aquaculture company specializing in the sustainable cultivation of Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis), a premium species in high demand across global markets. The company operates under the umbrella of the Valencian group Atitlan and has existing facilities in Portugal and Galicia, Spain.
As part of an ambitious expansion strategy, Sea Eight has initiated the development of a state-of-the-art Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) facility at the Port of Gijón, located in northern Spain.
This large-scale project aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 2,600 metric tons of sole, with further investments planned to produce an additional 10,000 metric tons annually.
In alignment with its sustainability goals and high production targets, Sea Eight required a robust and scalable water treatment solution capable of:
• Maintaining optimal water quality for sensitive juvenile and adult sole populations.
• Supporting the stringent biosecurity and environmental standards associated with RAS technology.
• Enabling phased expansion while ensuring consistent water disinfection performance.
• Minimizing chemical usage and energy consumption, in line with sustainable aquaculture principles.
The system needed to reliably manage high water volumes, accommodate both open- and closed-loop filtration processes, and guarantee effective pathogen control throughout the production cycle.
