The municipality of Taoyuan, located in Greater Taipei, Taiwan, has been subject to a growing population in recent times. The growth of tourism and residential populations has likewise increased the amount of domestic sewage in the area.
This has induced a major impact on environmental sanitation, living quality, and urban development, creating a need for comprehensive upgrades of the sewage sewers in the area.
For the project, located at the water source protection area, it was a requirement to keep up with the stringent discharge standards for treated water, as announced by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The standards include: (a) BOD5 ≦ 20 mg/L – (b) SS ≦ 20 mg/L – (c) total nitrogen ≦ 15 mg/L – (d) total phosphorus ≦ 2 mg/L – (e) ammonia nitrogen ≦ 10 mg/L – (f) Coliform bacteria ≦ 160,000CFU/100ml.
