WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT IN TAIWAN

The municipality of Taoyuan, located in Greater Taipei, Taiwan, has been subject to a growing population in recent times. The growth of tourism and residential populations has likewise increased the amount of domestic sewage in the area.

This has induced a major impact on environmental sanitation, living quality, and urban development, creating a need for comprehensive upgrades of the sewage sewers in the area.

WHAT THE CLIENT NEEDED

MEETING DISCHARGE STANDARDS

For the project, located at the water source protection area, it was a requirement to keep up with the stringent discharge standards for treated water, as announced by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The standards include: (a) BOD5 ≦ 20 mg/L – (b) SS ≦ 20 mg/L – (c) total nitrogen ≦ 15 mg/L – (d) total phosphorus ≦ 2 mg/L – (e) ammonia nitrogen ≦ 10 mg/L – (f) Coliform bacteria ≦ 160,000CFU/100ml.

THE SOLUTION

OPEN CHANNEL UV DISINFECTION

The design flow rate of this Wastewater Treatment Plant is 16.950 m3 per day, with the following treatment process:

(1) Primary treatment: The sewage initially passes through the coarse bar screen to remove larger debris, and then flows through the fine screen, grit chamber, and primary sedimentation tank to remove the gravel and most of the suspended solids.

(2) Secondary treatment: The effluent from the primary sedimentation tank flows to the Anoxic/Oxidation biological system and the secondary sedimentation tank to remove the organic and nitrogen pollutants.

(3) Disinfection: The effluent from the secondary sedimentation tank flows to the open channel UV system for disinfection and then discharges to the river.

(4) Sludge treatment: The sludge separated from the primary sedimentation tank and the secondary sedimentation tank is mechanically concentrated, reduced, and stabilized by the anaerobic digestion system, and then dehydrated by the dehydration system before being discarded.

  • UV outlet E.coli: 160,000 CFU/100ml
