ABOUT THE CLIENT
SEMICONDUCTOR FACTORY IN SOUTH KOREA
K-ENSOL Co., Ltd is a South Korean engineering company and a long-standing supplier of critical clean room infrastructure to SK hynix. The company specializes in total room engineering solutions for high-tech industries and has accumulated extensive experience with Water Showering Systems (WSS) used in semiconductor facilities. In this context, the WSS supports contamination control by removing gaseous or ionic contaminants from the air stream supplied to clean room HVAC systems, which is an important safeguard in environments where even microscopic contamination can impact yield.
The project relates to SK hynix’s M15X Ph03 and Ph04 semiconductor fabrication plant expansion in Cheongju, South Korea. M15X is an advanced production facility developed on a 60,000 m² site with an investment of approximately KRW 20 trillion, intended to support high-value memory manufacturing.
The Cheongju site is positioned as a strategic center for SK hynix’s future AI memory production, following the rising global demand.
WHAT THE CLIENT NEEDED
RELIABLE WATER QUALITY ASSURANCE
To achieve success with the WSS design, integrating UV sterilization was a key component of the water treatment process.
The UV solution needed to reliably maintain water purity, prevent microbial contamination, while aligning with the strict contamination control expectations of semiconductor facilities. For this industry, system stability, documentation, and long-term maintainability are crucial aspects.
THE SOLUTION
FUTURE-PROOF UV SYSTEM INTEGRATION
For this project, 4 sets of MR6-220SS MONORAY™ UV systems were supplied to be integrated as a key part of the WSS UV sterilization function.
One of the key aspects was the availability of reactors operating with the high design pressure of 16 bar. Going forward, this high-pressure requirement is expected to be a key selection criterion over the next project phases, which enables the potential of standardizing with ULTRAAQUA UV systems as a long-term supplier for future installations.
