ULTRAAQUA A/S Announces Business Partnership with Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corporation to Launch a Full-Scale UV Water Disinfection Business in Japan and APAC

ULTRAAQUA A/S1 (Head office: Aalborg, Denmark; CEO: Jens Skjølstrup; hereafter referred to as ULTRAAQUA)and Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corporation (Head office: Kanagawa Pref., Japan; President: Toshiyuki Hiraoka; hereafter referred to as Toshiba Lighting & Technology). entered into a business partnership agreement on September 30th, 2022, with regard to ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems for water treatment.

From October 2022, Toshiba Lighting & Technology will start distributing ULTRAAQUA’s UV water disinfection systems in Japan (exclusive) and other areas of the Asia-Pacific region (non-exclusive) to mark a full-scale entry into the UV disinfection business which is attracting attention as a disinfection method to replace thermal and chemical treatment against the background of tightening environmental regulations.

Toshiba Lighting & Technology will first start by providing customers with products that meet the standards and user needs of each country in collaboration with ULTRAAQUA and by leveraging Toshiba Lighting & Technology‘s network built through its lighting and industrial equipment businesses. Toshiba Lighting & Technology will also provide maintenance services, including supply of spare parts, for ULTRAAQUA’s products. Toshiba Lighting & Technology will start by handling UV water disinfection systems for water (raw water, manufacturing water, and recycled water) used in factories mainly for food and beverage industries, and will further expand the scope of application with ULTRAAQUA’s wide lineup of products. By combining Toshiba Lighting & Technology’s know-how in light source and power source technologies and ULTRAAQUA’s strong track record in water disinfection systems, both companies will be able to promptly provide high-quality products and services in Japan and other Asia-Pacific markets. Going forward, Toshiba Lighting & Technology will consider expanding into new businesses with a view to manufacture the products at Toshiba Lighting & Technology’s plants, as well as joint development of water disinfection systems using UV‐LED and other new products.

Through this partnership, Toshiba Lighting & Technology will accelerate its environmental business initiatives by strengthening industrial water disinfection systems in addition to its ultraviolet light source and irradiation technologies accumulated over many years. Both ULTRAAQUA & Toshiba Lighting & Technology hope this partnership will also contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by resolving social issues, such as water shortage and securing of safe water.
